Ensuring that expanded polystyrene (EPS) is collected and recycled effectively is a shared priority across Europe. In Spain, this effort is coordinated through the EcoEPS® Centre network, which provides dedicated facilities for the treatment and recycling of EPS from packaging, construction, and renovation. This article, originally published on 24 July 2025 by our Spanish member association ANAPE (Asociación Nacional de Poliestireno Expandido), announces the accreditation of Kingspan Shaped Solutions as the latest company to join this growing network.

logo ecoeps alta nuevo 2015The expanded polystyrene (EPS) industry is actively working to expand the EcoEPS® Centre network and thereby increase recycling rates. With this new addition, eleven Autonomous Communities now have an EcoEPS® Centre within their territory.

To promote the correct management, treatment, and recycling of both packaging waste and that generated by the construction and renovation sector, the EcoEPS® Centres are established across various locations in Spain to manage and recycle post-consumer, industrial, and commercial EPS waste.

Management, treatment, and recycling of EPS waste There are various recycling options for the recovered material, although the main one is to close the loop by incorporating it into new EPS parts after shredding.

To become an EcoEPS® Centre, EPS converters have adapted their facilities to be able to collect, shred, condition, and recycle the material, and to implement a quality system that ensures optimal raw materials and recycled products, guaranteeing the traceability of the entire process.

Through this voluntary initiative, expanded polystyrene converting companies take a further step to ensure the closure of the product life cycle and to meet legislative objectives.

With this new addition, there are now sixteen EcoEPS® Centres.

kinspan SS 2025On this occasion, KINGSPAN SHAPED SOLUTIONS, S.L.U is the EPS converting company that becomes a recycling centre officially accredited by the Spanish National Association of Expanded Polystyrene (anape), the first in Castile and León and the sixteenth at national level.

The industrial activity of Kingspan Shaped Solutions S.L.U. at its plant in Burgos focuses on the manufacture of EPS applications for construction, particularly ETICS and Civil Engineering. To a lesser extent, they also work with packaging applications used for the preservation and transport of food products.

About anape:
Anape is the National Association representing the Spanish expanded polystyrene – airpop® (EPS) industry. The main objective of anape is to represent the sector before the various stakeholders, to provide users of expanded polystyrene products with all the information they may require about this material, as well as to carry out activities aimed at promoting awareness and use of products that include this material.

The expansion of the EcoEPS® Centre network reflects how industry-led initiatives can deliver practical recycling solutions while supporting EU waste and circular economy objectives. By reporting on developments such as the accreditation of Kingspan Shaped Solutions, EUMEPS and its members underscore the value of national actions that contribute to European sustainability goals and strengthen the role of EPS as a recyclable material in both construction and packaging.
