Shortly before Christmas, EUMEPS had an outreach meeting with the Parliamentary Assistant of MEP Alessandra Basso, Simone Politi, to talk about the proposal of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). EUMEPS expressed its views and concerns about the legislative proposal which is currently discussed in the “Trilogue” among the European Institutions. EUMEPS invited MEP Basso to visit an EPS production site to learn more about the benefits of the product and the recycling opportunities of the material.
On 22 December 2022 AIPE organised the event “Europe meets EPS Industry: focus on Circular Economy, Recycling and Insulation” for the MEP and her team at the sites of S.T.S. Polistiroli. Luca Saccardi who kindly opened the doors of his company, showcased the importance of EPS for reaching Europe’s climate goals and for reducing the dependency of energy imports. Additionally, AIPE presented the ongoing activities on EPS recycling. Paolo Bottarelli from Versalis spoke about mechanical recycling and Fabrizio Colombo from BASF about chemical recycling. Representatives of the Milan Fish Market, SOGEMI Director Mr. Danilo Simonetta and the owner of the PEPS Palmieri SRL, Mr. Roberto Palmieri. presented positive results of the project for recycling EPS fish boxes.
Furthermore, Mr. Massimo Teruzzi from Intesa Sanpaolo spoke about “Banca Intesa's projects for the circular economy and recycling. The event was a great success and it showcased the successful cooperation between the National Associations and EUMEPS. The entire EUMEPS team would therefore wholeheartedly thank our Board member Alessandro Augello, Paolo Bottarelli and in particular Luca Saccardi for the organization.
