Description / Summary
EUMEPS has joined European and national organisations across the plastics value chain in renewing six strategic recommendations to strengthen the competitiveness, resilience and circularity of the sector in Europe.
The joint statement highlights the growing pressures facing European plastics production and recycling, including high energy costs, increasing international competition, legal uncertainty, administrative burdens and regulatory fragmentation. It calls for coordinated EU action to restore fair competition, support circular plastics made in Europe, strengthen verification and enforcement, improve the implementation of EU legislation, support innovation and private investment, and enhance Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
With the forthcoming Circular Economy Act, the signatories underline the need to create the conditions for investment and fair competition while supporting Europe’s transition towards a more circular plastics value chain. The statement positions a competitive and resilient European plastics industry as an important part of the EU’s wider objectives on competitiveness, strategic autonomy and circularity.
