The Role of Standardisation and EUMEPS’s Contribution
Standardisation plays a crucial role in establishing common requirements and methods for assessing quality, safety, and environmental performance. EUMEPS actively participates in various Technical Committees (TCs) of the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN), contributing to the development of standards that shape the future of construction materials and practices.
Setting Benchmarks with CEN/TC 88, CEN/TC 127, and CEN/TC 350
EUMEPS’s participation in CEN/TC 88 focuses on enhancing the standardisation of thermal insulating materials and products, centred on EPS, and the technical performance of EPS insulation products. CEN/TC 127, on the other hand, helps EUMEPS contribute to advancing fire safety standards in building products and systems, including requirements relevant to EPS insulation systems. Fire performance must be assessed for the complete system and the intended application.
Engagement with CEN/TC 350, finally, facilitates the integration of sustainability considerations into construction works, supporting the assessment of environmental, social, and economic performance metrics for construction works. These efforts represent EUMEPS's collective commitment to contributing sector expertise to discussions on evolving construction-industry requirements.
Empowering Compliance and Sustainability
EUMEPS is also involved in the shaping of policies and practices through the CPR and the Acquis process, advocating for standards that address the quality and performance of construction products across Europe. With a focus on design for recycling in construction, EUMEPS promotes responsible end-of-life management for EPS and supports collection, sorting and recycling initiatives where suitable infrastructure is available.
Our participation in EOTA supports technical dialogue on European Technical Assessments where applicable to insulation products and systems. Product assessment and certification remain subject to the relevant procedures and requirements. A comprehensive approach supports the assessment of EPS products against applicable regulatory and technical requirements.
