In the new Circular Economy Action Plan, the European Commission has committed itself to ensure that all packaging in the EU market is reusable or recyclable in an economically viable manner by 2030. Bearing in mind that goal, the European Commission was reviewing the PPWR and published a proposal in November 2022. EUMEPS participated in the public consultation on the proposal. The survey gathered the views of various stakeholders on the scope of the future legislation, risk-management approaches and sustainability requirements of packaging and packaging waste in the EU.
In its position paper, EUMEPS places EPS as the irreplaceable, sustainable, recyclable, high-quality packaging material for precious premium products. EUMEPS is currently running an intensive outreach program involving representatives of the European Commission, the Council of the EU and Members of the European Parliament. Recently a very successful meeting was held with MEP De Meo, MEP Salini, MEP Fiocchi, MEP Toia and MEP Fidanza, which was kindly facilitated by AIPE and our Board Member Alessandro Augello (picture).
